The Bergen RecordConnor Morales 041715

….Connor’s son, Joseph, of Glen Rock, said he was skeptical of the timing of Wednesday’s State Department statement. He said he viewed the announcement of possible talks over Chesimard and Morales as an attempt by the White House to “placate” critics of Obama’s decision a day earlier to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

“I’m not buying it,” Joseph Connor said of the possible extradition of Morales, a key figure in the Puerto Rican nationalist group known as the Armed Forces of National Liberation or FALN.

“I’ve been down this road for 20 years,” he added. “It’s better than them saying it’s not happening. But I think it’s a way to put people off.”

 Fox News Latino

http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/politics/2015/04/17/cuba-still-sponsors-terrorists-says-man-whose-dad-killer-is-harbored-there/

For many people, it was another headline about Cuba in a week of symbolic and substantive changes in relations between the United States and its Caribbean adversary.

The White House announced Tuesday that it was taking Cuba off the list of states that support terrorism. Obama administration officials said that Cuba had met key criteria for being delisted, including not supporting terrorism in the last six months, and a pledge by Cuban President Raul Castro that it would not do so in the future.

But the news hit Joseph Connor, a Wall Street executive and father of two, like a punch in the gut.

To Connor, Cuba is the place that is protecting William Morales, a Puerto Rican nationalist convicted in connection with bombings in New York in the 1970s, one of which killed the New Jersey resident’s father.

Morales was in the group known as the Armed Forces of National Liberation or FALN, and was believed to have been the mastermind of a bombing that occurred in 1975 at Manhattan’s Fraunces Tavern, where Connor’s father, Frank, was having a meeting with clients.

“There was a duffle bag, there were 50 sticks of dynamite, it was meant to kill a lot of people,” Connor said. “The Obama administration is opening a relationship with a Communist country that is still sponsoring terrorists. The thought that Cuba can be considered to not be a sponsor of terrorism while they give asylum to terrorists – it’s dismissing my father’s life.”

Morales was part of a group that was planting bombs all around New York City. He was convicted and sentenced to about 90 years, but escaped from Bellevue Hospital, where he was under police custody, by going down a rope fashioned from elastic bandages that was three stories long. The Washington Post called it “one of the most publicized [escapes] in U.S. history.”

He ended up in Mexico, which then handed him over to Cuba, where Fidel Castro, who gave sanctuary to several U.S. fugitives, welcomed him as a freedom fighter.

A Washington Post reporter caught up with him in 2002, where he was “sipping a cappuccino in a chic hotel lobby in Havana.”

“Only once I met Fidel Castro,” Morales told the Washington Post. “It was at a reception and I said to him, ‘Thank you.”

The notion of Morales and others who’ve killed people in terrorist acts in the United States living without a care and being treated as celebrities in Cuba gnaws at Connor.

“Morales has been sponsored as a guest by Cuba since 1988,” said Connor, 49. “It’s a travesty that the U.S. would even considering removing Cuba from the state sponsor of terror list.”

The most well-known fugitive in Cuba is Joanne D. Chesimard, a former member of the Black Panthers who is on the F.B.I.’s list of most wanted terrorists for killing a New Jersey state trooper in 1973. Chesimard also escaped – from prison – in 1979 and fled to Cuba, which welcomed her with open arms.

Now, U.S. officials are saying that Cuba has agreed to talks about fugitives.

Cuban government officials have not commented.

“We see the reestablishment of diplomatic relations and the reopening of an embassy in Havana as the means by which we’ll be able, more effectively, to press the Cuban government on law enforcement issues such as fugitives. And Cuba has agreed to enter into a law enforcement dialogue with the United States that will work to resolve these cases,” said State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke.

The dialogue is also expected to address cooperation on more routine crimes, officials said.

A Cuban government spokesman did not immediately return calls seeking comment Wednesday, but Josefina Vidal, Cuba’s top diplomat for U.S. affairs, recently ruled out any return of political refugees.

Still she said Tuesday night that “the Cuban government recognizes the president of the United States’ just decision to take Cuba off a list in which it should never have been included.”

Cuba was put on the list in 1982 because of what the U.S. said were its efforts “to promote armed revolution by organizations that used terrorism.”

That included support for leftist guerrilla groups including the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and the Basque separatist movement ETA in Spain. The State Department terror list entry for Cuba also noted the protection it has given to fugitives wanted in the United States.

Connor, who was only 9 years old when his father was killed, has devoted nearly all his life to keeping his father’s death from being forgotten, and to pressing for the return of Morales. He has gone to the probationary hearings of some who remain in prison to make sure they stay behind bars.

Most of the FALN members who were part of Morales’ group were given clemency by President Bill Clinton.

“Fourteen of them got clemency and walked out of prison,” Connor said.

Often, when he is in church, he makes his father a promise. He promises not to let his death be in vain.

“I say ‘Dad, I’m trying to do the right thing.’”

“Morales and FALN were Communists, Marxists, they were targeting corporate executives, people they saw as the bourgeois,” Connor said.

But that was not who his father was, he said.

Frank Connor came from an Irish immigrant family that did blue collar jobs in the hope that their son would have a better life.

Frank Connor went to City College before graduating from Fairleigh Dickenson, and got his job at a Wall Street bank where his mother was on the maintenance staff.

“My grandmother wanted my father to have a good, safe job,” Connor said.

Some people have told Connor to move on, to live his life.

“But this is my life,” he said.

The Cuban government has not given any indication that it will return the fugitives. The Castro regime has argued that the United States harbors Cuban exiles who have been responsible for what the Communist government says are terrorist acts against it.

Even if the regime were to promise to return the fugitives someday, Connor is skeptical.

“It’s not going to happen,” he said. “We’re the most powerful country in the world, yet we can’t negotiate. I’m not going to buy that two years down the road, these guys will be returned.”

Connor said he won’t stop pushing for Morales to pay for his crimes.

“He has not served in his time in prison,” Connor said. “He was arrested, charged and convicted and sentenced.”

It’s unfathomable to him not to keep fighting for justice for his father.

“The way I view it is, my father’s life and his death have been used for politics way too long.”

Perhaps we are reaching a positive tipping point in the quest to bring fugitives back from Cuba to face justice.

This week Alan Yuhas of The Guardian and Liz Llorente of Fox News Latino joined the Hartford Courant, New York Post, Bergen Record, Fox News Channel and other news outlets in publishing stories on the return of fugitives from Cuba, specifically FALN bomber William Morales.

Please click here for Ms. Llorente’s interview.

From Joe Connor’s interview with The Guardian, “Clearly, things have changed,” Connor said of the shift in relations between Cuba and the US, but he reserved criticisms for how Barack Obama has handled normalization, saying the US had “capitulated” too soon to demands. “I’m not jumping for joy here,” he said. “I’ve worked awful hard at this for an awful long time. I want Morales returned in his cage. It’s not like he has to come to court here; he’s already been sentenced. It’s easy.”Morales Cage

President Obama must reverse his decision to remove Cuba from the state sponsor of terror list and demand the return of these fugitives from American Justice.

If you agree, please contact your senators and house member requesting he or she demands Obama reverse his decision and brings Morales and the other fugitives back to face justice.

Good Riddance to Eric Holder, Op / Ed in The Washington Times

Only days before President Obama’s inauguration in Jan., 2009, I was invited to testholder Jail Cardify at Eric Holder’s confirmation hearing regarding his engineering, as deputy attorney general, the infamous 1999 Clinton clemency grants to 16 unrepentant members of the Puerto Rican terror group, Armed Forces of National Liberation (FALN).

During his own Senate testimony, Mr. Holder set the tone for this administration’s lack of transparency and excuse of ignorance against the accusation of malfeasance by claiming he didn’t know the FALN terrorists were filmed building bombs by the FBI. He foreshadowed his coming arrogance by casually deeming the release of unrepentant terrorists as “reasonable.”holder1…..

Sean Hannity asked me back in 2008 why Mr. Holder pushed for terror clemency even before Mrs. Clinton announced her Senate run.

I replied, “Maybe he just agreed with them.”

Some things never change.

Cuba on State Sponsor of Terror List: Republicans capitulate to Obama again

FrankConnorFrancesTavernIn my statement to Fox News Latino, “Only a weak, pathetic Congress who does not have the best interests of the American people at heart would not put up a fight against Obama removing Cuba — a state that has sponsored terrorists for decades — from the state sponsors of terror list.,” said Joe Connor, a Wall Street executive opposed to restoring diplomatic ties with Cuba, told Fox News Latino in an email.

“The Republican Leadership has laid down to Obama without even a fight,” said Connor, whose father, Frank Connor, was killed in 1975 in a New York City bombing whose mastermind, William Morales, fled to Cuba after being convicted and sentenced to 89 years in jail.

Like other opponents of de-listing Cuba from the terror list, Connor said the Castro regime’s protection of Morales — who belonged to FALN, a Puerto Rican militant group — and other U.S. fugitives show that it remains a sponsor of terrorists.

“So Obama capitulates to the likes of Cuba and Iran, and then the Congress, who is supposed to represent the people, capitulates to Obama,” Connor said. “Who is left holding the bag?  The American people like my family and yours.”

Fox 5, New York: U.S.-Cuba talks: Will fugitives be extradited?

“If we give in to Cuba on fugitives, on freedom its not negotiating, its capitulating.  And my father deserved better…”Fox 5 May 2015

http://www.myfoxny.com/story/29120191/us-cuba-talks-fugitives

The United States and Cuba head into a fourth round of talks aimed at restoring diplomatic ties between the two countries. However, one major sticking point in the discussions is Cuba’s harboring of American fugitives convicted of or linked to murder.

From the streets of Havana, Cuba, our latest Fox Doc took you inside the push to return one of American’s most notorious fugitives: Joanne Chesimard, convicted in the killing of a New Jersey State Trooper in the 1970s. She has lived freely on the streets of the island nation after escaping prison in the 1980s.

Joe Connor is intimately familiar with the hunt for wanted criminals in Cuba. His family has been trying to get William Morales extradited since the 1990s. Morales is thought to have built a bomb and possibly orchestrated an attack at the Fraunces Tavern in lower Manhattan in 1975. The explosion killed Frank Connor, Joe’s dad, along with three other people.

Within minutes of the explosion, a Puerto Rican terrorist organization known as FALN took responsibility for the attack. Though no one was ever convicted of the crime, by 1978 the group’s chief bomb maker William Morales would become a prime suspect.

Morales was later convicted on separate explosives charges but never fulfilled his prison sentence because he escaped from Bellevue. He eventually travelled to Mexico and later to Cuba, where he has lived as a free man ever since.

Before the United States takes bigger steps toward repairing diplomatic relations with the Communist country and discussing the possibility of re-opening an embassy there, families like Joe’s want their voices to be heard.

Capitulation Weekend: Cuba removed from Terror list and NYC number two supports unrepentant terrorist. All we want is justice; for these terrorists to fulfill their lawful sentences

Our father, 33 year old Frank Connor was murdered in cold blood by William Morales’s and Oscar Lopez’s FALN.  Incredibly over this weekend, the Obama administration removed Cuba, who sponsors fugitive FALN bomber William Morales, from the State Sponsor of Terror list and New York City Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito continued her crusade for a second presidential clemency for FALN leader Oscar Lopez Rivera who refused clemency in 1999.

How can the US remove Cuba, a state that sponsors terrorists, from the state sponsor of terror list?

On Friday the Obama administration and, through their deafening silence, their accomplices in congress did just that.Rosen Cuba 052915

James Rosen and I discussed this capitulation to a rogue regime that has sponsored fugitive terrorists including convicted FALN leader and bomb maker William Morales and BLA cop killer Joanne Chesimard.  Please click on the photo to the right for the complete story.

How can the number 2 elected official in NYC support a convicted leader of a terrorist group that murdered five in the city she leads?

More capitulation by our elected officials was clear Saturday when the number two in New York City, Melissa Mark Viverito led a rally supporting a second presidential clemency for another unrepentant FALN leader, Oscar Lopez Rivera.  Mark Viverito and her fellow terror supporters lie, ignoring the fact that Lopez defiantly refused then President Clinton’s politically craven clemency to Lopez and 15 of his and Morales’ Puerto Rican, Cuba inspired, Marxist comrades.   Viverito 053015

Our father, 33 year old Frank Connor was murdered in cold blood by Morales’s and Lopez’s FALN.  Certainly he deserved and we deserve better than this from our elected officials.

All we want is justice; for these terrorists to fulfill their lawful sentences.  Is that too much to ask?  Don’t terror victims deserve that much?

Speaking of terror again; Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito and the New York City Council

$
0
0

New York City Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito’s crusade for a second presidential clemency grant toViverito 053015 unrepentant terrorist Oscar Lopez Rivera is based on a calculated compilation of lies, omissions and obfuscations including failing to mention that Lopez has already been offered release but refused the Clintons’ 1999 clemency grant.

Lopez’s Puerto Rican terrorist group, Armed Forces for National Liberation, (FALN) waged a merciless, bloody war against The United States from 1974 to 1983 attacking civilians mainly in Chicago and New York.

On January 24, 1975, Lopez’s FALN murdered my 33 year old father Frank Connor while he was eating lunch with clients at Fraunces Tavern.  Our family was supposed to celebrate my brother’s 11th birthday, and my 9th birthday that very evening.  An FALN communique left near Fraunces that day took credit for the attack, which it called a blow against “reactionary corporate executives.” In fact, my dad was born to immigrants and raised in working-class Washington Heights, not far from Viverito’s district and some of the terrorists themselves.

The FALN continued its reign of terror through the early 1980s, when 11 of its members were arrested, tried and convicted in Chicago of (among other serious felonies) weapons possession and seditious conspiracy. The entirely appropriate prison terms were to run from 55 to 70 years.  During their trials, these defendants rejected US jurisdiction, claiming to be prisoners of war. Several FALN members threatened to kill or maim the judge, Thomas McMillan.

Viverito’s campaign for Lopez’s release attempts to evoke sympathy for the terrorist’s family, focusing on Lopez’s daughter growing up without her father since his incarceration 33 years ago. I empathize with his daughter and understand all too well the pain of growing up without a father.

Viverito and her terror supporters arrogantly assert that 33 years is long enough for Lopez to remain in prison as they dismiss the fact that 33 years was not near enough time for our young father’s life.

Her disinformation campaign omits that the FALN twice conspired to break Lopez out of prison. Plans involved a direct attack on Leavenworth federal prison, the killing of prison guards and the use of plastic explosives, automatic weapons and a helicopter. The FBI foiled the plot. Lopez was tried and convicted for his involvement, with 15 years added to his original 55-year sentence.

This is the felon whose release Viverito and these other disgraceful council members advocate.

A group of FALN victims, victims’ family members and I faced Lopez at his 2011 parole hearing in the federal prison in Terre Haute Ind. Had Lopez shown any remorse, had he asked for forgiveness, we would have requested the parole board release him but Lopez offered only lies, obfuscations and pathetic denials.

Lopez remains an unrepentant, committed terrorist who, contrary to Viverito’s request for clemency to President Obama, was not fighting for independence for Puerto Rico (less than 5% of Puerto Ricans ever voted for independence) but to subjugate the Puerto Rican people in a Marxist state modeled after Castros’ Cuba.

Lopez’s Marxist model Cuba continues to harbor convicted terrorists. His FALN fugitive comrade, bomb maker William Morales, who almost certainly built the bomb used to murder my father, has been a guest of the Castros since 1988. Viverito petitions President Obama for a second clemency for one FALN terror leader as Obama removes Cuba, a state that literally sponsors terrorists, from the state sponsor of terror list. Incredibly our government does not demand the return of Morales or any of the reported 70 fugitives from Cuba as a condition of normalization. Where is the justice?

Lopez’s own actions prove he belongs in prison.  In 1999, Lopez defiantly refused President Clinton’s grant of executive clemency (which was clearly made in order to boost Hillary Clinton’s chances in her 2000 run for a New York seat in the US Senate).  Viverito tellingly omits that crucial point.  Clintons’ offer was conditional on renouncing violence and never again associating with other felons, including his terrorist comrades. We learned at his 2011 parole hearing that along with rejecting those conditions, Lopez refused the 1999 clemency grant because another FALN leader, Carlos Torres was not offered clemency. Only after Torres was paroled in 2010, did Lopez seek release. Lopez was the heroic, martyr leader; the captain going down with his ship.

The other 15 FALN terrorists took the clemency offer and left prison on Sept. 10, 1999, almost two years to the day before our cousin Steve Schlag, my father’s godson, was murdered in the World Trade Center.

Viverito claims Lopez wasn’t accused of killing or harming anyone. In fact, he and his fellow FALN members were convicted of using force to commit armed robbery, interstate transportation of firearms, conspiracy to transport explosives to destroy government property and of willfully and knowingly joining a conspiracy to commit various acts of violence, including 28 Chicago-area bombings that maimed several people.

Further, all evidence indicates that those convicted in Chicago were part of the same national conspiracy that killed five people in New York, including our father’s murder at Fraunces and the New Year’s Eve 1982 attacks on Police Headquarters that left three NYPD detectives permanently injured.

Like the terrorist himself, Viverito and her terror supporters on the council are willing to lie, distort and obfuscate to win Lopez’s freedom.  They know the truth shall not set Oscar Lopez free.

All we are asking for is justice for Frank Connor and the other terror victims; for terrorists like Lopez and Morales to serve their sentences; nothing more. That does not seem like too much to ask.

Also As published in Fox New Latino on Friday, August 14.

With much fanfare, the U.S. embassy in Havana opened for the first time in 54 years. Instead of Kerry demanding Cuba returns fugitives from American justice, the Obama administration unilaterally handed legitimacy and the hard currency of international acceptance to a regime that has sponsored terrorists for half a century and even today harbors convicted terrorist fugitives including BLA cop killer Joanne Chesimard and William Morales. Morales’ Armed Forces for National Liberation (FALN) murdered my father Frank Connor

In a parallel capitulation halfway across the globe, instead of ensuring Iran never attains nuclear weapons, the same John Kerry is concerned that Iran, the world’s largest exporter of terrorism, would not trust the U.S. if Congress does its job and rejects the Obama administration’s insidious nuclear surrender.

New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito is the worst kind of hypocrite.

New York City’s number two, Melissa Mark Viverito was in Puerto Rico with Governor Cuomo this week pushing for US taxpayer funded federal aid in Puerto Rico’s AZ DAD 101814.docxfiscal crisis.  Said Viverito, “I thank Governor Cuomo for leading this trip to Puerto Rico to continue to push for an adequate response from the federal government to the crisis on the island…We need to work together to raise our voice and call on the federal government to act now to help our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters before it is too late.”

Viverito’s hypocrisy is palpable.

As the number two elected official in New York City, she begs for a financial bailout of Puerto Rico from our federal government as she advocates a second presidential clemency for a convicted Puerto Rican separatist terrorist leader, Oscar Lopez Rivera, who claims as his goal Puerto Rican independence from that very government.

Lopez’s FALN murdered my father Frank Connor and three others at New York’s Fraunces Tavern and arrogantly refused the Clintons’ 1999 presidential clemency.  This Puerto Rican terrorist that Viverito sees as a “freedom fighter” was so dedicated to his cause that he chose to remain in prison over freedom.FrauncesTavern-Jan24-1975

Viverito claims to support Puerto Rican independence despite the fact that less than 5% of Puerto Ricans have ever voted for independence.  As recently as 2012, over 60% voted for statehood.

Incredibly, now Viverito begs for a bailout of Puerto Rico’s debt crisis from US taxpayers and a federal government whose enemies she supports, whose national anthem she has refused to salute and to whom she refuses to pledge allegiance.

So which is it Ms. Viverito, are you truly a champion of terrorist Oscar Lopez and his murderous vision for Puerto Rican Independence?

Or are you just another fraud politician feeding at the hand of the government at which you snarl, using Lopez and the Puerto Rican people when it suites your political ambitions?

Pick your poison.

Hillary Clinton is not qualified to win the war on terrorists

HRC

http://townhall.com/columnists/joeconnor/2015/12/22/hillary-not-qualified-to-win-war-on-terror-n2096386

In the wake of the horrific attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, how dare Hillary Clinton lecture us on how to win the war against terrorists.

As we endure the politically driven rhetoric about terrorism from Mrs. Clinton, a candidate who refuses to even identify the enemy as “Islamic Extremist Terrorists,” I burn for our electorate to understand Mrs. Clinton’s history of pandering to terrorists and politicizing terrorism for her perceived gain.

Long before Mrs. Clinton’s politically driven terror denials about Benghazi, and her recent praise for the release of terrorist Omar Khadr from Guantanamo Bay, in the summer of 1999 then first lady Hillary Clinton planned her run for US senator from New York. Seeking to ingratiate herself to the Hispanic community in a state in which she had few ties, the carpetbagger Clintons accepted overtures from clemency advocates for the incarcerated Puerto Rican Marxist terrorist group, Armed Forces for National Liberation (“FALN”). These advocates included at least three Democrat Hispanic House members Jose Serrano (NY), Nydia Velazquez (NY) and Luis Gutierrez (Il).

On August 11, 1999, President Bill Clinton held up the Clintons’ end of the clemency bargain by offering executive clemency to 16 of these violent, unrepentant terrorists. The FALN, the most prolific terror group, in terms of bombings, in American history waged a bloody war against the United States, conducting over 115 bombings and six murders from 1974 -1983 including the January 24, 1975 lunchtime bombing of New York’s historic Fraunces Tavern (the site of General George Washington’s emotional farewell to his officers after the Revolutionary War) that murdered four innocent people. Among those murdered was my 33-year-old father, Frank Connor. Our family had planned to celebrate my recent 9th and brother’s 11th birthdays that night.
By 1981, the majority of the FALN terrorists were arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced in Chicago Federal Court to 50 to 70 year prison terms for crimes including seditious conspiracy, bomb making, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, illegal possession of weapons including explosives; large quantities of C4 plastic explosive, dynamite and huge caches of ammunition.

At sentencing, the remorseless FALN members taunted judge McMillen calling him a terrorist and threatening that only their shackles kept them from killing him. FALN member Dylcia Pagan addressed the court: “All of you, I would advise you to watch your backs.” Another FALN member Ricardo Jimenez told the Judge, “You can give me the death penalty, you can kill me now.” “You say we have no remorse. You’re right,” FALN member Ida Rodriguez told the judge. “Your jails and your long sentences will not frighten us.”

Judge McMillen agreed that the defendants showed no remorse. “I’m convinced you’re going to continue (terrorism) as long as you live. If there was a death penalty, I’d impose the penalty on you without hesitation.”

These are the terrorists the Clintons’ unleashed on the American public; playing Russian Roulette with our lives for cheap politics.

Contrary to the standard process, the FALN terrorists never requested clemency. Instead a “support committee” petitioned clemency on their behalf. Inexplicably, the Justice Department conducted the standard investigation which resulted in Pardon Attorney Margaret Love not recommending the terrorists’ release. However then Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder fired Love and compelled her replacement, Roger Adams, (who also would not recommend clemency) to draft a neutral “options” memo which provided President Clinton the rationale he needed to offer their releases.

Further:

· FALN supporters received a reported nine meetings with White House and Justice Department officials including Eric Holder;

· Victims and their families were ignored by the Clintons and DoJ;

· FBI, Bureau of Prisons and other agencies recommended against clemency ;

· Terrorists were provided 30 days and inter prison conference calls to decide to agree to renounce violence and accept freedom;

· Terrorists were not required to provide information for unsolved crimes as a condition of release;

· Eventually 14 of the 16 accepted clemency and 14 walked free on September 10, 1999 (one was out on parole); and,

· Finally and perhaps most tellingly, FALN leader Oscar Lopez Rivera defiantly refused clemency and remains in prison today.

Hillary Clinton was in favor of the clemencies before she was against them.

According a September 2, 1999 CNN report, a spokesman for Mrs. Clinton’s campaign said, “she supports the clemency offer – provided those covered renounce violence.” It was not until the public firestorm against the clemencies that Mrs. Clinton suddenly changed positions and claimed she was against clemency.

So to Mrs. Clinton, as long as she stands to gain politically, all it takes for convicted terrorists to be released from prison is to renounce violence! Astonishingly it took these terrorists 30 days to agree to this pathetic, simplistic and absurd condition and incredibly one of the terrorists refused even that and remains in prison.

Is this how a commander in chief wages a war on terror? By political expediency?

Clinton and Obama sycophant Eric Holder asserted that clemency was “reasonable” as those terrorists were “non-violent,” not specifically convicted of killing or harming anyone. This was a flat out lie. These terrorists were convicted of willfully and knowingly joining a conspiracy to commit acts of violence, including 28 bombings in the Chicago area that maimed several people. Further, all evidence indicates that those convicted in Chicago were members of the same conspiracy that killed five people in New York, including those in the Fraunces Tavern bombing.

Like the failures and cover-up in Benghazi, the reasons for the clemencies were purely political and obviously an attempt to further Hillary Clinton’s political career. However, Clinton and her team miscalculated. Instead of a quiet release and minimal fallout, (like they also hoped for with Benghazi), the terrorists did not immediately accept clemency while a firestorm erupted. Forgotten victims and families like mine publicly demanded answers from the Clintons. The Senate passed a resolution of condemnation by a bipartisan 95 -2 vote as media outlets hammered the administration.

Long-time Hillary Clinton advisor Cheryl Mills personally advised the House Government Reform Committee of President Clinton’s assertion of executive privilege stonewalling the inquiry into the FALN. As a result none of the Justice or FBI officials testified at the Congressional hearings at which we prophetically warned that releasing these terrorists would only encourage more terrorism. Our immediate family and greater American family were horrifically proven correct exactly 2 years later on 9/11/01 when I witnessed the attacks on the World Trade Center that murdered our cousin and father’s godson Steve Schlag among the some 3,000 innocent people massacred.

Mrs. Clinton now cheers the release of terrorist Khadr and pushes for Gitmo inmates to be released or brought from Cuba to the US for trials. This as she endorses lifting the embargo and President Obama’s normalization of relations with Marxist Cuba who provides safe haven for some 70 fugitives from the US including BLA cop killer Joanne Chesimard and FALN bomber maker William Morales. So Mrs. Clinton wants to shutter Gitmo moving the terrorists from Cuba, yet she does not demand the return of convicted terrorists from Cuba.

It is time America understands who Hillary Clinton really is; a ruthless, unscrupulous political opportunist.

I said in 1999, “It is painful to think that my father’s life was worth less to the president than his wife’s election.” It is clear now that to Mrs. Clinton, all Americans’ lives are worthy only of her self-serving games of Russian Roulette and are certainly worth less than her political ambitions.

Is this the kind of political opportunist we want in the White House again?

Fox News Latino Op / Ed

A year after the Obama Administration began its “negotiations” to restore diplomatic and economic relations with Cuba, it is clear Cuba is getting the better of the bargain.

Just yesterday, U.S. officials announced an agreement that would allow dozens of direct flights between U.S. cities and Cuba, potentially funneling millions of American tourist dollars into the repressive Marxist state. These are millions of dollars that would otherwise stay in the U.S. or go to other Caribbean nations, many of whom have been loyal American allies.

Instead, we plan to inject Cuba with an abundant supply of hard currency, effectively giving a transfusion into the dying economy of a country that has been our enemy for more than half a century.

In addition to its well documented history of antagonism against the U.S., for decades the murderous Castro regime has provided safe harbor to convicted terrorist bomber William Morales and BLA cop killer Joanne Chesimard and others among the 70 U.S. fugitives currently in Cuba.

Morales was the chief bomb-maker and one of the leaders of the clandestine Puerto Rican terrorist group, Armed Forces for National Liberation (FALN), one of the most prolific terrorist organizations ever to wage war against the United States.

Between 1974 and 1983, the FALN claimed responsibility for over 130 bombings that killed  6 in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, including the premeditated bombing of New York’s historic Fraunces Tavern. My 33-year-old father Frank Connor was murdered in cold blood in that calculated, savage attack.

Morales most certainly built the sinister device that killed our father the very day our family was set to celebrate my 9th and my brother’s 11th birthday.

Ironically, on what would have been my dad’s 37th birthday, July 12, 1978, Morales blew the fingers off of both his hands and part of his face when a bomb he was crafting exploded in his bomb factory in Queens.

Morales was captured, tried and convicted in federal and state courts and sentenced in 1979 to up to 99 years in prison but escaped from Bellevue prison hospital with the assistance of white radicals who called themselves the Revolutionary Armed Task Force.

During the state trial Morales had boasted, “No jail is going to hold me forever. They can put 1,000 of us in jail. They are not going to hold us forever. That’s what I have to say.”

Through a FALN investigation run by the Chicago Terrorist Task Force, Morales was eventually located in Puebla, Mexico, in 1983. When the Mexican police closed in, he and an accomplice killed a Mexican police officer. Morales was arrested and charged with being an accessory to murder. Despite the Reagan administration’s request for extradition, the sympathetic Mexican government sent him to Cuba in 1988.

Between 1981 and 1983, 16 core members of the FALN and Los Macheteros, a related group, were arrested, convicted and sentenced to long and well-deserved sentences. Despite my regular communications with the Clinton departments of State and Justice beginning in the early 1990s, demanding the return of Morales, in 1999 President Clinton with the cover of then-Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder, infamously granted clemency to 16 unrepentant FALN and Machetero comrades.

Now President Obama and U.S. government officials blather about fighting a war on terror yet they ignore bringing justice to convicted terrorists like Morales and Chesimard.

This government fights no war on terrorism. It falls all over itself to release or trade Islamic terrorist detainees from our Guantanamo Bay, Cuba facility, and allows convicted terrorists like Morales and Chesimard to remain in Cuba. Our family is directly affected by both failures as our father’s godson, my cousin, Steve Schlag was murdered on 9/11 as I witnessed the attacks from my nearby office window having just commuted through the World Trade Center.

Americans must be aware of what is at stake here. We cannot allow Obama to needlessly give away our safety and prestige, receiving nothing in return. If they are serious about winning a war on terror, I ask President Obama, Cuban-American presidential candidates Cruz and Rubio and the other Democrat and Republican candidates, including Hillary Clinton, to join with me in publicly demanding and securing these fugitives return and imprisonment.

Clemency to these fugitives, as was provided to Morales’ comrades by the Clintons and has been rumored as a possibility, is no option.

My father’s life and untimely death in the name of an illegitimate “political” cause has haunted my family for over 40 years. Now we have the chance to bring justice to one of the conspirators while furthering our war on terrorists.

My mother Mary told me last Christmas she always hoped she would live long enough to see Morales brought to justice.

This is our chance to grant her that wish.

9/11 Families at Guantanamo Bay: GTMO embodies American Values

$

JGTMO3As published in National Review Online and Townhall.com:

The Guantanamo Bay detention camps have been attacked by many, including our own president, as contrary to American Values, as not “who we are” and a “recruitment tool for our enemies.”

For those of us who have been there, who have observed the terrorists in court at Camp Justice, who have witnessed the great lengths our judiciary goes through to provide due process to the likes of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) the red bearded, evil, boastful mastermind of the 9/11/01 attacks that murdered 2,976 individuals and shattered countless lives, GTMO is a symbol of American goodness and greatness.

Please, Mr. President:

I am honored to be part of a small group of 9/11 family members chosen to observe the pretrial proceedings.  Objections to this facility and these proceedings, in my opinion, are unfounded.

GTMO represents the very best of America.

Eight of us arrived at Andrews Air Force Base, Saturday morning February 13, hopeful but apprehensive about our trip to Guantanamo to face the murderers of our family members. Aside from the deaths of our beloved brothers, husbands, fathers, sons and cousins, we all brought something in common; the pursuit of justice.

After a most rewarding week, we parted perfectly unified with the utmost respect for the prosecutors, our fantastic military, for American Justice and for one another.  We took home with us hope, a more steely resolve for justice than ever, spiritual connections and a renewed sense of pride in America.

Those are the American values I was raised with but have been lost on this president.

This is a president who has authorized hundreds of deadly drone strikes resulting in thousands of deaths. Unlike rights afforded at GTMO, none of those droned was provided any due process nor were they allowed a seat before a just Military Commission.

This is a president whose trusted Attorney General for six years, Eric Holder, engineered the politically driven 1999 Clinton clemencies to the convicted terrorists of the FALN.  This Puerto Rican terror group murdered my father, Frank Connor, at the 1975 Fraunces Tavern bombing among over 115 bombings and five murders.

Is releasing unrepentant terrorists now “who we are?”

This president pushes the normalization of relations with terror supporter, Cuba (even planning a state visit) without demanding the return of convicted fugitive FALN bomb maker, William Morales or BLA cop killer Joanne Chesimard who have received safe harbor for decades in Cuba.

So whose values does this president represent and whose values does he condemn?

The proceedings at GTMO provide boastful, unrepentant terrorists with more due process rights than most Americans receive.  From the very best defense attorneys, to endless legal motions and access to potentially classified information, prayer mats in court, praying five times a day, these proud terrorists are being allowed to drag the process on indefinitely.

They are akin to suicide bombers.  Using America’s quest for justice against us and knowing they are likely to one day die at GTMO, these terrorists are taking with them the lives of the prosecution, military, media, 9/11 families and even their own defense teams as they drag on the proceedings year after year. As a member of the prosecution team said last week. “We want the trial done during the lives of the living.”

The terrorists are allowed “hired guns” to view the proceedings. KSM’s mitigation attorney, sponsored a guest, Scharlette Holdman, (who has represented the Unabomber and the Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnev) standing in the gallery at the back of the courtroom next to the youngest members of our 9/11 family, bowed, saluted and traded friendly hand gestures with the terror leader.

When Holdman audibly referred to KSM as her “buddy” and the killer made eye contact, tauntingly smiling at the kids whose fathers he murdered, we had enough.  Our family stood together and saw to her removal along with the translator KSM was trying to add to his defense team.

We witnessed pure evil in the courtroom that morning; the same evil the good people of our armed forces serving in Guantanamo Bay have dedicated their lives to bring to justice. Despite our president’s rhetoric, rightly or wrongly, we as a nation have bent over backwards for the rights of these terrorists.

The United States did not ask for this fight.  Our family members were barbarically murdered on 9/11 by a ruthless enemy with no country or borders.  In the past, such captured fighters would hang.  Today, Obama simply drones them with no due process. But Guantanamo Bay neither hangs nor drones. It tries.

Whether or not we believe the terrorists deserve such just treatment, GTMO houses these terrorist combatants as they are brought to justice; the very essence of who we are.

We all should be proud of the magnificent work being done at GTMO and of the great Americans dedicating their lives in bringing justice for our loved ones.

Mr. President, the great people at GTMO epitomize our American values.  You could learn from them.

The camps must remain open.

Joe Connor demands President Obama to secure return of terrorist fugitives from Cuba

God bless those innocents murdered in Brussels today by radical islamic extremists.  We pray their families find strength, peace and justice.

President Obama’s words immediately after today’s attack were the height of hypocrisy, “This is yet another reminder that the world must unite. We must be together regardless of nationality, or race, or faith in fighting against the scourge of terrorism. We can and we will defeat those who threaten the security of people all around the world.”

These words come from man, Obama, who indulges himself in self congratulations on opening relations with Cuba, a decades long supporter of terrorism, while failing to bring convicted terrorist fugitives from Cuba to face US justice.   Convicted Puerto Rican terrorist bomb maker William Morales whose FALN murdered my father Frank Connor and BLA cop killer, Joanne Chesimard are two of scores of fugitives receiving safe harbor in Cuba yet this president refuses to demand their return.

Steve Malzberg and I discussed today on NewsmaxTV.

Air Force One touched down on Cuban soil for the first time Sunday I reflected on Fox News that the contrast between President Reagan demanding Mikhail Gorbachev “tear down this wall” and current President Obama’s capitulation to tyranny could not have been more stark.  Today’s words sadly confirmed my suspicions.

As published in Townhall.com and discussed with Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV Joe focuses on Bernie Sanders’ pledge to pardon unrepentant FALN terrorist Oscar Lopez Rivera who incredibly refused the Clintons’ craven clemency offer in 1999.

From Townhall:

On May 16, while campaigning in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders publicly urged President Obama to grant clemency to Oscar Lopez-Rivera, calling him
a “political prisoner.” Sanders promised to pardon Lopez if elected President.

Oscar Lopez is in no way a “political prisoner” but, rather, a remorseless, convicted terrorist who was, during the 1970s and 1980s, a leader of the Armed Forces of Puerto Rican National Liberation, or “FALN”, the most active domestic terrorist organization in American history. Among its numerous violent acts was the planting of a bomb during a busy Friday lunch hour in Fraunces Tavern in January 1975 that murdered four men, including my father Frank Connor, on the very day our family was to celebrate my ninth birthday.

Sanders’ pandering remarks to a Puerto Rican crowd conveniently ignored Lopez’s violent past. Before his arrest in May 1981, Lopez had been personally involved in numerous bombing and incendiary attacks, was a prime recruiter for members of the FALN, and was a key trainer in bombing, sabotage and other techniques of guerrilla warfare. A cooperating witness testified at his trial that Lopez taught him how to make bomb detonation devices and gun silencers. After Lopez’s capture, in his residence the FBI found a large quantity of dynamite and blasting caps. Lopez was convicted of numerous violent felonies, including possession of an unregistered firearm, conspiracy to transport explosives with the intent to kill and injure people and to destroy government buildings and property, and aiding and abetting travel in interstate commerce to carry out arson.

And imprisonment was not the end to Lopez’s criminal activity. While in Leavenworth Penitentiary, he masterminded two plots to break out of prison, the second of which involved forcing a helicopter pilot to land in the prison yard, with grenades, rifle fire, and explosives to be used to deter guards from taking action to prevent the escape. Lopez further instructed his compatriots to murder the seller of the weapons and equipment if he didn’t give them a fair price.

Also not mentioned by Senator Sanders was that Lopez already had been offered clemency, in 1999 by President Clinton most certainly to connect then senate candidate Hillary Clinton to New York’s Hispanic community.  The Clintons and then Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder played Russian Roulette with the American people.  Lopez refused the 1999 offer, one of the conditions of which would have required him to renounce violence.

In January 2011, I faced Lopez at a two-hour parole hearing at the federal prison in Terre Haute Indiana, during which he was afforded multiple opportunities to express his remorse and attempt to reconcile with the victims and their families. Instead, even with his very freedom at stake, he provided nothing more than lies, rambling obfuscations, and political diatribes, blaming everyone but himself and offering childish rationalizations for his career in the FALN and his prison escape attempts. I was hoping for something good in him that I could cling to, something that would bring my family some “closure”, something that would allow me to forgive; to consent to his release.  But there was nothing there. The hearing examiner’s recommendation that parole be denied was upheld by the United States Parole Commission, which informed Lopez of its conclusion that he was “a more serious risk than indicated by the guidelines in that you were one of the recognized leaders of the FALN…Your release on parole would promote disrespect for the law and you should serve the remainder of your aggregate Federal sentence.”

Mercy and forgiveness are important qualities for a society to demonstrate, but not at the cost of justice. As my mother, who lost the opportunity to grow old with her first love, has said publicly, “If Oscar Lopez showed any remorse for his part in planting the bomb that killed my husband, I would be willing to forgive him. But, no such words have passed his lips.”

To Bernie Sanders and the Clintons justice is only meant for the criminals and for political points, while the rest of us be damned.

DAILY WIRE EXCLUSIVE: FALN Victim’s Son Says Hillary Was A Key Figure In Pardoning The Terror Group

With all but the coronation of Hillary Clinton as the Democrat nominee for president, Joe spoke with Aaron Bandler of The Daily Wire about Mrs. Clinton’s contemptible role in the politically driven HRCclemency to the terrorists of the FALN who murdered his 33 year old father Frank Connor.

From the June 8, 2016 Daily Wire:

Joseph Connor, an author and anti-terrorism advocate, spoke to The Daily Wire about how his father was murdered by a Puerto Rican terrorist group, and how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was directly involved in pardoning them.

On January 24, 1975, Connor and his family were eagerly awaiting for his father, Frank Connor, to arrive home from work to celebrate Joseph Connor’s ninth birthday and his brother’s 11th birthday. Connor’s mother had prepared a special meal for the evening for the family to celebrate. Sadly, his father never came home, as a bomb detonated at Fraunces Tavern in New York, where he was meeting a client for lunch, and stole his life from the Connor family. “I remember my dad always being there for us, taking us to Met games, playing with us, playing basketball with us, playing, kicking around a soccer ball, doing, you know, just always being there,” Connor told The Daily Wire.”

He was a young guy, he was only 33. And he loved us, and he gave us a great childhood until that day.” The bomb was planted by the Puerto Rican Armed Forces for National Liberation (FALN) terrorist organization, which was responsible for 138 bombings between 1974 and 1983.

“Their stated purpose was to free Puerto Rico from U.S. imperialism, but of course that wasn’t true,” Connor said. “They were a Marxist group, and they were really looking to enslave Puerto Rican people under another Cuban type Marxist country.”

In fact, the FALN were trained by Cuban intelligence and were deadly at their craft–the FBI didn’t know about them for years. The FALN had targeted the Fraunces Tavern because it is a historic landmark where George Washington gave a farewell to his Revolutionary War officers and was also a hangout for Sons of the American Revolution. It is still a place where people on Wall Street hang out. “Not only could they attack the seeds of the American Revolution, but also the “reactionary corporate executives” they so wanted to kill,” Connor said.

BLA, BLA, BLA, BLA or BLM, what difference at this point does it make?

http://townhall.com/columnists/joeconnor/2016/07/22/bla-bla-bla-bla-or-blm-what-difference-at-this-point-does-it-make-n2196413

Tuesday night at the Republican Convention, NJ Governor Chris Christie indicted Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration for, among other things, their capitulation to Cuba without securing the return of Black Liberation Army (BLA) leader Joanne Chesimard.

Undoubtedly many viewers asked themselves, “Who is Chesimard? How does our government allow this fugitive refuge to remain in Cuba? How many other fugitives from American Justice do the Castros protect?”

Joanne Chesimard is a murderer. Joanne Chesimard now calls herself Assata Shakur. Assata Shakur is a cop killer.

BLA leader Assata Shakur / Joanne Chesimard, the cop killer, is the inspiration behind Black Lives Matter (BLM).  She is on the FBI’s most wanted list. Her words prominently adorn BLM’s website.

BLM is a group inspired by cop killers of yesterday. They inspire cop killers today, and are the people Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama side with over the police.

In 1973, as a leader of the Black Liberation Army, Joanne Chesimard murdered New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster during a wild shootout after a routine traffic stop on the NJ Turnpike.  She and a BLA comrade were captured, tried, convicted and sentenced to life in prison.  Chesimard, with the help of other Marxist radicals of the time, escaped from prison in 1979 and were eventually welcomed by Cuba where she has been a guest of the Castro regime since the mid-1980s.

But Chesimard is not alone. In fact there are a reported 70 fugitives from American Justice currently receiving safe harbor from the Castros including infamous FALN bomber William Morales. Like Chesimard, Morales is a convicted, escaped terrorist on the FBI’s Most Wanted List and a guest of the Castros’ Cuba since the 1980s.

In 1975, Morales was a leader of the Marxist, Puerto Rican Terror Group, FALN who waged a decade long war including some 130 bombings against the American people.  Morales almost certainly built the bomb used to murder my father, 33 year old Frank Connor and three other innocent men while wounding scores at the infamous lunchtime terror bombing of New York’s historic Fraunces Tavern.

On July 12, 1978 (would have been my dad’s 37th birthday) a bomb Morales was constructing at the FALN’s Queens New York bomb factory detonated blowing off nine of Morales’ fingers and part of his face.

Like Chesimard, Morales was tried, convicted and, in 1979 sentenced to 99 years on New York State and Federal charges. He escaped from New York’s Bellevue Prison Hospital with the help of fellow Marxist radicals, and was arrested in 1983 after a wild shootout where a Mexican police officer was murdered. In 1988 Morales was given safe haven in Marxist Cuba despite the protests of the Reagan Administration.

Morales and Chesimard are inextricably connected and have together achieved cause celebre status by the radical American left. They were even interviewed together in Havana and had a student / community center named for them at City College of New York. Disgracefully, The Guillermo Morales / Assata Shakur center stood for decades at CCNY and was only shut down in 2013 due to public pressure on the school’s administration.

M! Can you imagine, a student / community center on public college campus named in honor of convicted, fugitive cop killers and terrorists?  And my father attended City College!

As Hillary Clinton geared up for her 2000 senate run from New York, in an ill-advised attempt to win votes from New York’s Hispanic community she and then Deputy AG and future Obama AG, Eric Holder pushed her husband Bill Clinton’s 1999 offer of executive clemency to Morales’ unrepentant FALN comrades.

These convicted terrorists, many of whom threatened the judge at sentencing, did not even apply for clemency and for 30 days refused their freedom. Finally all but one, Oscar Lopez Rivera, accepted clemency and walked out of prison on September 10, 1999. Lopez remains in prison today but there is a crusade among the American left for President Obama or, God forbid, a second President Clinton to offer Lopez a second clemency grant.

Hillary Clinton and Obama’s capitulation to terrorists didn’t begin or end with the Castros and Black Lives Matter. As Secretary of State Mrs. Clinton was the main architect of Obama’s normalization of relations with terror supporter Cuba without ever demanding the return of these terrorist fugitives.

Obama and Clinton’s capitulation to a regime in Cuba that has supported terrorists for decades is no different to their pandering to the terrorists of the FALN and now to Black Lives Matter.

The difference between BLM and BLA is indeed but a single letter. Clearly their inspiration and aspirations are identical.

How can we win the war against domestic and international terror if we refuse to prosecute these known terrorists?

It is time for America to demand the return of these fugitives from Cuba.

I call on Mrs. Clinton, as architect of our current policies toward Cuba to immediately demand President Obama secure the return of Morales, Chesimard and the other fugitives.

I call on Mr. Trump to heed Governor Christie’s words and pledge that if elected president he will immediately secure the return of Morales, Chesimard and the other fugitives from Cuba.
